Book Review/ /Renegades, Marissa Meyer

“Heroism wasn't about what you could do, it was about what you did. It was about who you saved when they needed saving.”

Summary (from Goodreads): The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies—humans with extraordinary abilities—who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone...except the villains they once overthrew.
Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice—and in Nova. But Nova's allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

My Thoughts: I love the way Marissa Meyer writes. My sister actually requested this book for a Christmas gift and I read it first(!!!) The story was very captivating, just like all her other books. I did, however, have a hard time connecting with the characters. Partly, because there were a lot of main characters. By the 20th chapter, you know them by heart. The premise of the story was revolving around revenge and being prejudice.

Genre(s): Fantasy, Young Adult, & Science Fiction

Appropriate Age: 14+

There are two gay men that are married in the book. You don't realize til a few chapters in, but nothing happens throughout the book. Once I realized that I wanted to stop reading the book, but I ended up reading it anyway. Use your personal convictions. I do want to let you know that nothing detailed is described them at all. You just know that the two are together.

There is some heavy violence in the book. In the very beginning, you get to witness Nora's backstory of how she became apart of the villains. Her family gets killed at the age of 6-years old. There is an on-going war between the Superheroes (aka, the Renegades) and the villains of the city. So there are several battles that take place between the two.

I believe the only bad word was "a*s"
